The “Dangerous Athletes Crew” (named by the athletes on this crew) is a rowing crew, specifically for adults with intellectual disabilities. The crew meets Mondays & Tuesday afternoons to row & train– as an unified team. The Dangerous Athletes scull in singles, doubles, quads and occasionally sweep in practices and compete / race in local, regional and national regattas. The Dangerous Athletes crew often can be found rowing on Lady Bird Lake under the Congress Bridge, home to 1.5 million Mexican Free Tail bats–a big attraction for the locals and tourists here in Austin!
Coach Debbie McDiarmid employs fun strategies and rowing technique skill building, as well as healthy dose of motivation to move the Dangerous Athletes crew forward. This crew includes novice athletes learning to row -to- competitive athletes who have been identified as “high performance” athletes by the United States Rowing’s National Adaptive Team coach.
Every Spring, Texas Rowing For All hosts the National Adaptive Development ID Rowing Camp for persons with intellectual disabilities in connection with US Rowing. Information about this successful camp can be found elsewhere on this site.
