Texas School of Blind & Visually Impaired Crew

High School students from the Texas School of the Blind & Visually Impaired meet on Monday afternoons from 3:45-5:00 to row and kayak on Lady Bird Lake.  Students from the School have proven to be “quick studies” when it comes to learning rowing technique! Not only do they become proficient rowers, the experience tends to build self-confidence, independence while having fun and increasing athleticism on the water.

Students from the Texas School of the Blind were the first group of rowers who ventured out as an adaptive sport program led by Randy Rosens on Lady Bird Lake a year before the Texas Rowing For All organization was officially formed.  Diane McDiarmid & Randy are the visionarys who started adaptive rowing in Austin—all because of their experiences coaching the students at the Texas School of Blind.  A league of adaptive athletes would never had the opportunity to row, compete and recreate if it wasn’t for the positive experiences TRFA had/have with School of Blind athletes!

This is where we row--Beautiful Lady Bird Lake in downtown Austin.
